Description

Latvian Fund for Nature offers an internship position for natural sciences Master student interested in working with birds of prey. You will have an opportunity to participate in a project LIFE AQPOM that is a nation-wide species protection project, dealing with Lesser Spotted Eagle, an EU priority bird species.

Intern will be provided with the initial training upon starting the internship and afterwards tasked with species inventory work under a supervision of an experienced bird expert. The main tasks will be assisting in field works (monitoring of breeding success, searching for nests, assisting in building of artificial nests etc.)

The work will involve intensive field work, sometimes camping in the field and working outdoors in various weather conditions. We will provide intern with means of transport and cover the transport and accommodation costs while working in the field (if those costs would not be covered by Erasmus or other scholarship).

Duration: 2 months

Period: 1 July to 31 August

Skills required:
Drivers licence (EU category B).
Experience with bird inventories.
Familiarity with bird fauna of the Boreal biogeographical region.
We expect our interns to be independent, proactive and good team players.
Excellent English skills are required, and a working knowledge of Latin for species identification would be an advantage.
Familiarity in working with GIS tools for species mapping would be an advantage.
Physical fitness to work in hard field conditions.

Additional information:
The internship is UNPAID, priority will be given to applicants who are part or are planning to apply for Erasmus Plus or other scholarship.
Legal eligibility to work in the EU is a must.
Foreign students should be covered by the health and travel insurance from their home country.
