Live streaming is expected to resume in the spring season.

The Northern goshawk (Accipiter gentilis) nest can be observed online within the territory of the Children’s Clinical University Hospital (Bērnu klīniskās universitātes slimnīcas) on the Dabasdati portal since 2024; more information on its breeding history can be found here.

Breeding of Northern goshawks on the hospital grounds in Riga has been known since 2015. Currently, two goshawk nests are located relatively close to each other; both are in good condition, while a third, historically older nest has already fallen. All nests are built in old pine trees.

In previous years, the pair of goshawks has alternated breeding in all three nests. Interestingly, breeding has been successful every year so far.

In 2025, breeding by the female Perle and male Haris H44 was successful, with four young fledging from the nest.

In Latvia, the Northern Goshawk is a threatened bird species. Although it is not currently listed as a strictly protected species, it is included in the list of species for which micro-reserves must be established to protect breeding sites. More information on  can be found here.

We express our gratitude to Bērnu klīniskai universitātes slimnīcai for their collaboration.
We are also grateful to SIA “Riekstu kalns” and SIA “Rewind” for their support.

The camera system at this nest was installed by Jānis Rudzītis, Ģirts Strazdiņš, and Arnis Zacmanis.
