The goshawk nest was discovered at the beginning of 2021 while working on the Lesser spotted eagle online camera (in a spruce) system restoration. It is located less than 200 meters from the Lesser spotted eagle nest. In the year it was discovered, the goshawks successfully nested, raising three young birds. The following year, the nest was occupied but unsuccessful, while in 2023, another successful nesting year occurred, with two young birds leaving the nest. Given the small distance between the nests, it is possible that we will see attempts to visit the neighboring nest.

The livestream from the nest began at the start of 2025. Nest chronology here: https://forums.dabasdati.lv/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=4409

The camera system at this nest was created by Jānis Ķuze and Jānis Rudzītis.

The ongoing events in the nest can be commented on in the Dabasdati.lv forum in Latvian: https://forums.dabasdati.lv/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=4462

In Latvia, the Eurasian goshawk is a threatened bird species. Although it is not currently listed as a strictly protected species, it is included in the list of species for which micro-reserves must be established to protect breeding sites. Goshawks in Latvia primarily feed on pigeons, blackbirds, tits, crows, and other birds of similar size. Nests are built in trees of various species and are used for many years. Clutch size ranges from 2–5 eggs, with one brood per year. Chicks remain in the nest for a relatively long period. Adults are sedentary, while juveniles disperse slightly during winter. More information about the species can be found here.
