LIFE GoodWater IP

To improve the state of risk water objects in Latvia, in 2020, a collaborative project named “Implementation of Latvian river basin management plans to achieve good surface water status” was initiated, involving 19 organizations under project number LIFE18 IPE/LV/000014 (LIFE GOODWATER IP).

This project is supported by the European Union’s LIFE environment and climate program and the State regional development agency. Currently there are 164 at-risk water bodies in Latvia, including 89 rivers and 75 lakes, and key challenges include pollution from plant nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus compounds leading to eutrophication) and alterations to the banks and beds of watercourses.
