In Latvia, all grassland habitats of EU importance that are specially protected are currently in an unfavourable conservation state. This decline is mainly due to improper grassland management, habitat destruction (such as through ploughing and afforestation), and overgrowth. During the implementation of the GrassLIFE project, it became evident that there is significant potential for grassland restoration. However, achieving this requires the close involvement of farmers and targeted, practical communication with the public on grassland conservation topics. Without proactive efforts to restore these habitats and improve their management, grassland conditions will continue to deteriorate. To prevent this, there is a need for measures that support habitat restoration on farms, the testing and dissemination of innovative grassland restoration and management techniques, and the demonstration of best practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
