D.5. Citizen Science approach to grasslands

Citizen science approach to monitoring will be applied in GrassLIFE in two components:

1. Engaging wide audience and providing tools for the use of www.dabasdati.lv for nation-wide reporting on large trees and species of birds/invertebrates/plants associated to grasslands.
2. Engaging schools in the reporting about the soils.

Data that will be gathered as a result of this action will contribute to overall knowledge about the priority grassland habitats and their soil parameters and for identification of abandoned Fennoscandian wooded meadows (6530*). These data will also be used for connectivity assessments that will be an important element in the project. We expect that, apart from being a great communication tool, citizen approach will make an important contribution towards the accumulation of the data in the long-term.
