Voting for NATURA 2000 award candidates

08.05.2015

December last year to January 21 this year, every nature conservation project developer was welcome to share their success story and submit their project for Natura 2000 award. In the five award categories a total of 93 project developer applications from 24 European Union member states were received. This year every citizen too can vote for their favourite European Union specially protected area network Natura 2000 award candidate. The voting will take place in April on Natura 2000 award website. The winner of citizen vote will receive the European Citizens' Award.

The aim of Natura 2000 award is to draw public attention to the importance of protected natural values in European Union and to assess the innovative ways and methods nature protection project developers in different European countries use to achieve their goals.

Preliminary project evaluation based on set criteria has been done by an independent team of experts to form a short-list of finalists for the award. A high level jury assembled by the European Commission will then select the winners out of the short-list.

The winners of Natura 2000 award  will be revealed at the Award Ceremony in Brussels on May 25, 2015.

Last year 163 applications were submitted for the award.
